Broadway’s Wicked comes to Vancouver!

We are excited to partner with Broadway Across Canada (BAC) on a giveaway to one of Broadway’s most beloved musicals – Wicked. Coming to Vancouver Wednesday, May 28 until Sunday, June 29, 2014, this is the second time the award-winning Wicked has toured in our city, and it is back due to popular demand!

Declared “The Best Musical of the Decade” by Entertainment Weekly, Wicked musical is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which tells the untold story of the witches of Oz: Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West born with emerald-green skin and is misunderstood and Glinda the Good Witch of the North who is beautiful and very popular. Blue Man Group Contest

West Side Story comes to Vancouver!

Pulled directly from the pages of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the musical takes place on New York’s West Side in the mid-1950s amidst widespread racial and social tension. The show begins as a war is building between two rival gangs fighting over the same piece of turf: born and bred New York boys, The Jets, and Puerto Rican immigrants The Sharks. In the midst of the battlefield are two young romantics, good-boy Tony, a Jet ready to leave the gang life behind, and wide-eyed Maria, the sister of Sharks leader, Bernardo. When Tony and Maria unexpectedly meet and fall for one another, tension between the rival groups only escalates, leading to a bloody and senseless rumble that costs both sides young lives. In spite of the violence, the true story at the core of the show is two lovers trying to find a way to be together—and whether either can survive when hate and ignorance are unwilling to yield.

War Horse is a remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship between a young boy, Albert, and his beloved horse Joey. When Joey is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France, Albert embarks on an extraordinary journey to find him and bring him home. War Horse is a universal story about hope in the face of adversity, and the production is an anthem for peace.

We are so excited to introduce brunch service at Minami, starting this weekend! Every Saturday and Sunday, wake-up to delicious eggs benedicts, sushi, crepes, and more at 1118 Mainland Street, from 11:30am to 3 pm. You will find popular Minami items on the menu in addition to unique takes on the traditional eggs benedict with Japanese ingredients, such as the hatcho miso pork belly, saikyo dashi eggplant Florentine, and smoked salmon with chiffinaude shiso.

Our private rooms are great for business meetings, and our Blue Ocean room was recently booked for a full-day function. Equipped with AV equipment, a private entrance, and facilities, it is a great venue for a meeting.

Minami also provides continental breakfast as well as lunch! Priced at $15 per person (excluding gratuity and tax), the breakfast includes homemade seasonal scones/muffins, a plentiful fruit platter, tea, and drip coffee.

Here is our team with the spread. Yes, those are some delicious scones – bacon & green onion and white chocolate & orange.

Our very own Alan Ferrer created the artful fruit platter spread. Not just made of melons, strawberries, and pineapple, it had a bit of everything, including dragon fruit.
